Concrete balconies are increasingly being manufactured by precast companies, taking advantage of the numerous benefits that prefabrication provides.
With the new Halfen HIT-PI structural thermal breaks, precast balconies can be mechanically fixed to the building structure in a few minutes, using just a few nuts and counterplates.
Halfen HIT-PI eliminates the need for temporary supports, as installation is no longer dependent on the curing time of the concrete.
Halfen HIT-PI can be adjusted in all three directions, a key feature for a fast, trouble-free installation.
1. Variants:
There are two variants of the Halfen HIT-PI. Fixing can take place from either the balcony side (Type HIT-HP PI-B) or the inner floor slab side (Type HIT-HP PI-F).

2. Load distribution:
For most balconies, two HIT-PI modules will have the capacity to carry the full load. For large balconies, two pairs of HIT-PI modules are used. If the inner floor slab is of sufficient stiffness, the HIT-PI modules can also be distributed evenly across the width of the balcony.
3. The product range:
Halfen HIT-PI system is a connection between a set of parts cast in the balcony in the precast factory and a set of parts cast in the floor slab at the building site.
These modules are defined by several parameters:
3.1 Fixing from the balcony side
In the case of a fixing at the balcony side, the modules are available with 2 or 3 tension bars.
3.2. Fixing from the floor slab side
Where the balconies must be fixed from the floor slab side, the modules are available with 3 tension bars.
Installation aid:
Manufactured from corrosion-resistant stainless steel, the proprietary installation aid is lightweight and reusable. It ensures that every component is correctly positioned in its designated location and guarantees a seamless assembly process. With its innovative design, it simplifies the adjustment of the HIT-PI connection modules and allows for precise alignment between each element.
Recess formers:
1. Tension Bar Recess former:
Being made from high-quality polyurethane, allows the former to be reused many times. This base body has one unique size, that fits all tension bar diameters. The void created by the recess former blocks will have adapted dimension, giving the necessary space for an easy connection, while ensuring the load capacity of the whole.
2. Tension Bar Adaptor plate:
Made out of the same PU material as the Tension Bar recess former, the adaptor plate perfectly fits holes in the tension bar plate and is also adapted to the diameter of the tension bars. The adaptor is clearly marked with the relevant thread dimension, as an easy visual check.
3. Recess former for the load bearing bracket:
Creates the necessary space at the BOTTOM below soffit of the balcony, ALLOWING to allow the insertion of the load bearing bracket located IN THE FLOOR SLAB SIDE at the side of the floor slab. This recess allows for a 20 mm longitudinal adjustment (+10 mm / −10 mm) across the width of the balcony.
Additional set of shims:
Although shims are already included as standard and fixed to the load bearing bracket, additional sets are available separately. Each set includes 5 shims in stainless steel with a 2mm thickness and 2 countersunk bolts M6 with a length of 25mm, allowing a maximum of 20mm shims to be secured onto either face of the load bearing bracket.
