As part of its commitment to its communities, Leviat served as a proud sponsor of this year’s Hillsborough County Women Build project. Hillsborough County is home to Tampa, Florida - headquarter city for Leviat's operations in North America and home to over 50 Leviat employees.
Leviat teamed with CRH sister company, Oldcastle APG, to provide a monetary donation and a team of volunteers to help construct a new home for a Tampa-area woman and her three children.
Women Build, an official program of Habitat for Humanity International, is an annual initiative that “recruits, educates, and inspires women to build, fundraise, and advocate for stable and affordable homes in our communities.”
The Women Build program's beginnings can be traced back to 1991 when a group of Charlotte, North Carolina, women teamed to build a Habitat house in their community. Thanks to promotion by the Jimmy & Rosalynn Carter Work Projects, and participation by first lady Hillary Clinton, Women Build became an official program of Habitat for Humanity in 1998. Today, the program boasted over 130,000 women donating their time for projects all over the globe.
For the 2023 Tampa project, volunteers from Leviat and Oldcastle APG participated in two days of construction activities on May 20th and June 24th to help build the new three-bedroom, two-and-a-half-bath home. Volunteers from other organizations in the area also donated time and money, and the house is expected to be completed by September 2023.
Recounting her participation on the project, Leviat’s North American Director of HR, Caroline Ocasio said, “It has been a terrific opportunity to spend time with some of our CRH teammates outside of work, learn a few new skills, and most importantly help make a real impact for the future of a deserving local family right here in Tampa.”
