Thermomass System SC

Thermomass System SC optimizes insulation coverage and composite action, providing designers the highest level of insulation value in a composite panel.

Thermomass System SC is a patented insulation system designed to create a structurally-composite concrete sandwich wall in both plant precast and site-cast tilt-up applications. The system is unique in that it forces the two wythes or layers of concrete to act together structurally, creating a thinner panel.

  • Thermomass didn’t invent the composite sandwich wall panel, but we made it a lot more thermally efficient. Whereas traditional composite sandwich wall panels utilized metal connectors or solid sections of concrete to develop composite action, System SC optimizes insulation coverage and composite action, providing designers the highest level of insulation value in a composite panel.
  • The two main components of the system are CC Series fiber-composite connectors and either extruded polystyrene or polyisocyanurate insulation. Thermomass supplies both components of the system – the connectors and the fabricated insulation as a complete system. The CC Series connectors are installed through pre-determined slots in the rigid insulation, providing a grid of connectors across the body of the panel. The CC Series fiber composite connectors are tested in accordance with ICC Acceptance Criteria 320, verifying their compliance with the building code.
  • The grid of connectors behaves like a verendeel truss to resist the loads imposed upon the panel without sacrificing insulation coverage. This is key in creating a thermally efficient and structurally sound composite wall panel.

Connector Approvals:

  • Thermomass CC Series connectors have been evaluated by the ICC Evaluation Service (ICC-ES), receiving an evaluation report (ESR 2873) that indicates the connectors meet code compliance with the International Building Code (2015, 2012, 2009), International Residential Code (2015, 2012, 2009), the 1997 Unifrom Building Code, and the 2013 Abu Dhabi International Building Code. Building officials, architects, contractors, specifiers, designers and others utilize ICC-ES Evaluation Report 2873 to provide a basis for using or approving Thermomass CC Series connectors in construction projects.
