Halfen HZA Dynagrip 41/27 Cast-in Channels

The new Hilton Saigon hotel, strategically positioned in the heart of Ho Chi Minh City's bustling business district, boasts a contemporary architectural design inspired by the layered aesthetics of traditional Vietnamese temples. The vision for the hotel's facade required expansive curtain walls, requiring a solution that ensured structural integrity, efficient installation, and long-term performance.

Challenge

Traditional methods relied on drilled holes to fix the facade, a process that was not only time-consuming and labor-intensive but also presented potential weaknesses in the concrete structure. These weaknesses could be further exacerbated during seismic events.

Solution

In response to these challenges, Leviat's engineering experts proposed the Halfen HZA Dynagrip 41/27 Cast-in channels. These channels feature serrations along the inside of the channel lips, which interlock with matching serrations on Halfen HZS serrated T-bolts. This positive mechanical connection is particularly crucial in seismic regions, as it provides superior shear load resistance in the longitudinal direction of the channel.

The application of Halfen HZA Dynagrip channels at the Hilton Saigon Hotel's facade was a meticulously orchestrated process. These channels were seamlessly integrated into the concrete structure during construction, forming a secure fixing point for the curtain wall brackets. This not only simplified the installation process but also eliminated the need for drilling, a key challenge in traditional methods.

The enhanced design provided by the Halfen HZA Dynagrip channels resulted in several key benefits:

Key Benefits

  • Improved Load Distribution:  Halfen HZA Dynagrip channels distribute loads more evenly across the concrete, potentially reducing stress concentrations that might occur during a seismic event.
  • Enhanced Structural Integrity: The secure connection between the facade and the concrete structure offered by Halfen HZA Dynagrip channels can improve the overall stability of the building envelope in seismic zones.
  • Reduced Risk of Failure: Tested and approved in accordance with European Assessment Document EAD 330008-04-0601 and the International Code Council Evaluation Service (ICC-ES)  Evaluation Report ESR-4016, Halfen HZA Dynagrip channels have proven performance and minimizes potential  risks by eliminating the need for post installed anchors which are highly susceptible to installation errors.

Conclusion

Leviat's engineered approach played a key role in the success of the Hilton Saigon Hotel facade. By proposing the Halfen Dynagrip cast-in channel system, our team identified an opportunity to improve the design's seismic robustness. This tailored solution not only eliminated the need for traditional drilled holes but also demonstrably enhanced the overall resilience of the facade. The Halfen HZA Dynagrip system offers a smarter and more secure alternative for high-rise developments in seismic zones, making it a valuable solution not just for the Hilton Saigon Hotel but for similar projects across the globe.
