The China-Belgium Technology Center (CBTC), located in the Louvain-la-Neuve Science Park, is the result of a collaboration between Hubei province of China, AWEX, UCLouvain and inBW. It’s goal was to create a gateway for Chinese and Belgium companies.
The services offered and the privileged connection to UCLouvain's Innovation Network, allow Chinese companies to explore the European market while developing their technologies. On the other side, innovative Belgian companies with a link to China, can also come here to facilitate their prospecting and trade.
The CBTC is situated on approximately 8 ha of land in the Science Park and consists of an all-in-one business center, which includes a coworking space, offices, laboratories, a hotel (170 rooms), and a conference center. Construction began in 2017. By the end of the three phases, the CBTC could house approximately 200 European and Chinese companies and 1,500 jobs.
This large-scale project also considers the integration of Chinese expats in Louvain-la-Neuve. In addition to the CBTC short-term housing hotel, 300 units are planned for future construction.
Due to the complex nature of the project, Leviat’s teams worked tirelessly on helping the engineers and architects at multiple stages of the project. Our teams went beyond just delivering the products that we highlighted at the beginning of this case study. Special Leviat solutions were developed and used within the CBTC.
Some of these solutions were: special masonry hooks with tests realized on site using our calculations, Murfor Epoxy sold with our calculation for the brick facade, PVC shims, chamfers, steel corners, metal spacers, Stabox, PVC spacers, Fondaform, Thermo-Break, couplers, sealing plate,Titan.
